10 Things To Do In London This April

By Littlebckpacker @littlebckpacker

I published a list of things to do in London last month and the post went down a storm so I figured I’d do another one for this month. Not only do they inspire me to get off my bum and actually make the most of living in London but hopefully they provide you with a few different ideas you wouldn’t normally think of.

So here are 10 Things To Do In London This April

Visit Petersham Nurseries

I took a visit here last month and it was literally the best thing I did in London in March. On an early spring day this is the place to go to enjoy the sunshine. They have a gorgeous selection of food and drink with glasshouses to sit and enjoy it in. Or if you are feeling extra brave then there is some outdoor seating too.

Cheer on the runners of the  London Marathon

Like me! Well you don’t have to do that but it would be highly appreciated, the more people shouting my name as I attempt to run this ridiculous distance might just help. The London Marathon is on the 24th April this year and the course takes in most of central London, heading east as far as Greenwich, looping around Canary Wharf and of course around the main sights of London.

Celebrate St George’s Day

Last month we had St Paddy’s this month its England’s turn. There are a number of events in London to celebrate the occasion but the biggest is the Majors Party at Trafalgar Square. The 23rd April falls on a Saturday this year so that gives you the perfect reason to head into central and join in.

Visit Gods Own Junkyard

Aka a wonderland of neon lights that looks incredible. Head out to Walthamstow Central to get to this stunning warehouse and be blinded by more lights than Vegas (okay well maybe not more but still a lot). This place is only open weekends so plan your visit carefully but they have a cafe on site so at least you can make the most of your time there.

I saw this BuzzFeed article earlier this week and although they provide some pretty epic ideas this next one is high on my priority list.

Explore Epping Forest

This 6,000 acre woodland is the perfect place to spend a sunny spring day exploring. You will totally feel like you have escaped the city out here and there is so much to keep you entertained. Just check out their website for more on what they offer. But my must do would be lots of walking and a cheeky picnic.

Go To This Kate Tempest Event

I saw Kate back in 2014 at In The Woods festival and she was amazing. I’ve never been big on spoken word before but there was something about her which made me think twice about it. The tracks she did during that festival are ones I still listen to now and I would love to be at this launch on April 7th for her first novel (unfortunately I’m not in the UK).

This post by Mollie Bylett had me wanting to go to all these cafes but my ultimate choice would be this next one..

Get tea at Lights of Soho and enjoy the art

Located on Brewers Street in Soho this cafe come art gallery features neon lights from all over the world and the works are forever changing. You can purchase a membership to this creative community and attend regular exhibitions if you love it that much. Alternatively just pop in for a peek and a cuppa.

Go to Columbia Road Flower Market

This ditty has been on my London ‘to do’ list for as long as I can remember. I just get lazy and can never be bother to head to north east London when I live in south west. But spring is all about flowers and on a sunny Sunday I can think of nothing better than wandering here and grabbing a cuppa while I’m at it.

Tour London on the number 15 bus

Recently I took the BBbakery bus on a tour around London while we ate afternoon tea. It reminded me how I often rush past the highlights of London because I’m on my way somewhere and too busy to stop and take them in. The number 15 bus is a central route around London and takes in many of the cities highlights. Take a seat upon this bus and just sit back and enjoy instead of rushing.

Head to the Photographers Gallery

Because we all know at some point it will rain in April and you will need something to do inside. From the 15th April this month the DEUTSCHE BÖRSE photography prize exhibition is back with the four shortlisted artists showcasing their work until June. So if you don’t get around to this exhibition this month there is plenty of time yet.

That’s it for April, I’ll be back with more events for May and if you have an event or activity you would like featured in these posts, just send me an email.
