Technology evolves fast and rapidly changes. Things we know today might become out-dated tomorrow. With that being said, when you’re into technology and tech news some-times it’s difficult to keep track of everything that’s going on, particularly if you have a busy everyday schedule. Luckily, this article brings you 10 things that every gadget geek should know to save you some time you’d spend on browsing for news and tips like this. Let’s go.
1. Apple Pencil might become everyone’s favorite accessory
Apple Pencil was designed to function as an input device for iPad Pro. The accessory costs $99 and the company released it alongside their new tablet computer to help you draw, take notes, annotate photos, mark up documents etc. Furthermore, Apple Pencil is an excellent precision input device that you can use to select small menu items or adjust app controls. The pencil connects to iPad Pro via Bluetooth and charges through Light-ning connector which is hidden under a magnetic cap. Apple claims that full charge can last up to 12 hours. Due to series of internal sensors, this cool gadget can detect how hard the tip is pressed against the tablet as well as the tip’s angle while you move it across the screen.
2. LiFi to offer faster internet than WiFi
The most talked about latest technology news is development of new tech LiFi that will have hundred times faster internet that WiFi we use now. This isn’t the news about gadg-ets per se, but it’s equally important and it concerns all gadgets you use or will use after all. LiFi, which could be used in near future, will work by flashing LED lights on and off at incredibly fast speeds sending data to user in binary codes. Scientists already achieved speeds in the lab of up to 224 GB per second which is equal to downloading 18 movies in a blink of an eye.
3. New software boosts smartphones to 4K without draining battery
Kogakuin University from Japan and Fujitsu are working to reduce the power consumed while playing 4K videos. The university and the famous company have worked together to create a software which can scale up the video playback on your smartphone to a reso-lution of 3840×2160, also known as 4K. This new technology has the ability to display Ultra HD at 30 frames per second without increasing the power consumption of your phone. With this new invention, the prices of 4K phones will significantly decrease (which is good for the rest of us) and the wider selection of these gadgets will be availa-ble on the market. Right now, only Sony’s Xperia z5 Premium has 4K screen. In a short period of time, we can expect other companies to release their phones that sport 4K.
4. Computers that know what you feel or think
One of the most interesting world news headlines is about the project on which Daniel McDuff has been working on at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Media Lab. He’s trying to develop a computer that will know exactly how you feel. The system that McDuff is working on, functions via a standard webcam which detects a range of differ-ent facial movements from smiling to frowning. The system translates these movements into seven most recognized emotional states: amusement, sadness, surprise, joy, fear, dis-gust, and contempt. The computer learns from a massive database of over 4 million videos from volunteers and paid-for market researchers in various emotional states. McDuff also revealed that even when people try to mask their feelings e.g. hiding sadness with a smile, the computer is able to recognize the differences. Looks like development of computers that read our minds and emotions are just a matter of time now. Who’s going to stand in line to buy the first one?
5. Prolonging smartphone battery life is quite easy
When battery life lasts for a few hours only, most people think about changing. Even the most “hardcore” gadget things don’t consider any of the following tips (mostly because they want a legitimate excuse to purchase the new smartphone), but here are some things you can do to prolong the battery life until you buy a new smartphone:
• Turn off vibrations
• Dim your screen
• Shorten screen timeout
• Don’t use your phone while it’s charging
• Close unnecessary apps
• Disable GPS
• Turn off Wi-Fi, 3G, 4G etc. when you don’t use them
• Disable unnecessary notifications
• Maintain cool room temperature.
6. Shake window to minimize/maximize
This feature is quite cool; to minimize other windows when your browser is working, just shake the active one. To restore minimized windows, shake the current one again.
7. Sign documents with Preview app (MAC)
This is one of the most overlooked and underrated apps in Mac, but it’s quite useful. The app can add your own signature to any document. To do this, you just have to: Open Pre-view – Tools – Annotate – Manage signatures – Create signature. Then, all you have to do is to use your trackpad or sign onto a blank piece of paper, hold it in front of the camera and click Done.
8. Skip to the bottom of album in iOS Photos with one click
Scrolling down through hundreds of photos can be quite frustrating, particularly if you want to find the oldest one. You can easily skip all the photos and get to the oldest one by tapping Albums, which is in fact a shortcut to the bottom. In Moments album Photos shortcut will do the same.
9. Close three apps at once
You can double-tap the home button to see all apps that are currently running on your phone. You can close these apps by swiping up. Also, you can use three fingers to swipe up and close three apps. Try it.
10. Lost your Android phone? No biggie
Losing your favorite gadget can be quite stressful. If your phone is Android, you can just head to Google and search for find my phone. The results will show the map where you will see at what location your phone is. At the bottom of the map you will see the Ring feature which is also useful. Of course, you have to be logged on to your Google account to perform this action.
Conclusion
Judging by the current tech news, the world is going to witness some major changes in internet usage quite soon. One thing is for sure, it will be interesting to see how devices, operating systems, and even internet are changing and adapting to new standards.
