The VMAs to me was like complete culture shock. I barely knew who most of those artists were and just wasn't prepared for all the stuff that came along with it.
Now, I still think I'm Mom Gangsta but this new stuff is definitely a little over my head. Remember when Slick Rick was considered outlandish, or what about ODB, Madonna, Lil Kim, um I have to say it, Flavor Flav? Now, next to some of the new new, these folks would have looked normal.Watching the VMAs was like a learning experience. Like a fast forward to music of today, because clearly, I was not up on any of this. So here are a few things I took away from watching:
1. Lil Wayne scares me.
There I said it and I'm not ashamed. I have to admit, a few years ago, I liked him. I used to sing a long to anything from The Carter and The Carter II, they were on my list of favorite albums. Unfortunately, somewhere between getting married and having M, I realized that I'm just not that into him.
4. My son is a great judge of musical talent since he is already and Adele fan singing Fever Pitch, on his own, without the radio, and he's 3 years old.
5. Lady Gaga has an unhealthy fascination with Ralph Macchio, it's very weird.
6. Katy Perry is cute. I have nothing better than that, except that she looked like her outfits were inspired by bubble gum, or cartoon characters. Once again, weird.7. I love Beyonce's spirit. Nough said.8. Britney Spears seemed a little empty.9. Tyler The Creator. Let me be honest, here, never heard of him, and I'm okay with that, however, a word of advice, when you want to inspire the kids, say something that doesn't need to be censored. Oh, and never make huge jumps without proper support. That looked like it hurt.
10. Nicki Minaj definitely has an attention getting style, I'm just not sure what kind of attention she's getting. I have to admit I can't help singing along to, okay, anything she drops, but still, I just don't get her outfits. What did you take away from watching the VMAs?
