Kids these days don’t even know how awesome gaming was back when developers used to build games with a great story and characters which always made us remember them for the rest of our lives. Sadly today, kids only look for the action. After finishing a Call of Duty game in just few hours, without even knowing what they’re shooting at, they start waiting for the next sequel.
However. there are still a handful of games that still reminds us about the good old times. Now, this is my list of top 10 most badass dude characters I’ve came across in the video games I’ve played. Check out the list and see if you can find someone you know.
Dante (Devil May Cry)
I played DMC 3 using an emulator on my PC, many years ago. And right from the beginning of the opening cutscene, I went crazy over this guy. He’s got style, amazing skills, he’s a master of swords, guns and he is awesome as hell. He’s half-demon but he’s also a demon hunter. He’s brother is also awesome too. But, is the best there is.
Agent 47 (Hitman)
When it comes to silent killing/ stealth gaming, Hitman takes me way back. Whether if it’s silently strangling random bad guys from behind, disguising, sniping, practice shooting all kinds of weapons, or doing missions inside a brothel, this dude is one of best in business. He never smiles, don’t talk much but he’s got attitude.
Sam Fisher (Splinter Cell)
This guy may not be as awesome as Agent 47, but he’s got skills. He saved the world several times and works with the good guys. I think the credit should go to Michael Ironside for making Sam Fisher sound badass than any game character. I just loved the way he talks. And he’s awesome moves too.
Max Payne
Bullet-time is what I’m talking about. Max Payne won’t be in this list without his awesome slow-mo shooting and reloading actions. And he’s also one hell of a shooter too. Max Payne 1 was one of the best 3rd-person shooters I’ve ever played, for like countless times.
Mario (Super Mario Bros.)
I know, you’re gonna laugh at this one. But, let me remind you that this goofy-looking plumber has the power to breaks bricks, rescue Princess Peach over and over, shoot fireballs off his mouth, grow and shrink down and many more. Now if that doesn’t count as badass, I don’t know what does.
Leon S. Kennedy (Resident Evil)
I’ve seen him in almost all Resident Evil games, but I never started to like him for his badassery up until RE4. I think RE4 is the best RE game ever. Leon’s awesome attitude and the stylish shooting made the game better. He not only saved his ass in that hell hole of zombies and giant monsters, he also dragged President’s daughter everywhere he goes.
Duke Nukem
“You’re like an old wrinkled up cucumber in a convent”. That’s right, you remember him for his awesome set of one liners. In the meantime he goes around killing aliens. I know he should be on top, but I had to put him down here for few reasons.
Bill “Mad Dog” Rizer (Contra)
Contra was one of the first game’s I’ve ever played. Bill and Lance are both badass. But most of the time I ended up playing Bill, so I gotta give this up to him. Whether you played the arcade game or the NES version, you know how awesome these guys’ shooting skills are.
Carl Johnson (GTA San Andreas)
He was just released from prison, he gets into a gang war, he does some shitty work for the police rats, he’s family and he’s friends before he takes over San Andreas. And during his free time, he participates in illegal street races, learns to drive or fly, takes girlfriends on dates, or takes some girls on a ride in his car to secluded places. Do you want me to continue?
Tony Montana (Scarface: The World Is Yours)
You may know him from the epic 80′s film. But, there was also a film-inspired video game. It was made as a sequel to the movie. Al Pacino himself voiced for the main character in the game. Game story starts as an alternative ending to the movie, Tony starts his life from the bottom to take revenge on his enemies. Don’t let anyone get in his way or when Tony is driving, because he says the nastiest words.
