The Too Much TV Roundup- June 21st

Posted on the 22 June 2022 by Sirmac2 @macthemovieguy

Since starting doing this daily instead of weekly, i think I’ve always managed at least 5 shows. These January 6th hearings, plus trying to watch a movie everyday is throwing my rhythm off. And, you know, I don’t actually sit in front of a TV all day.

1) The Staircase (HBOMAX)

English Audio Description Available?: Yes

I was impressed pretty much right out of the gate with this HBO Limited series. No, I didn’t watch the Netflix doc. But, Colin Firth doesn’t usually, if ever, drop his accent, so hearing him pull off an American accent was interesting in itself. Then, the rest of this amazing cast, the twisty storyline, and some terrific audio description made for a great first episode that has me hooked.

Final Grade: A

2) Pachenko (Apple Plus)

English Audio Description Available?: Yes

Sunja flashed back to a rather interesting story about how she managed to pay off her brother-in-law’s debt he accrued by bringing her and Issac over. Then, her creepy ex is shown, like he’s still looming around every corner. Dude, you’re the one who was married. Where is your actual family? You’ve got all this free time to just be a creeper? Meanwhile, in the present time, Sunja is trying to find her father’s grave, but something else has been built where the grave used to be. I have many reasons why this show is not topping my lists, but I also have many reasons I keep watching this show, and would easily recommend it. there really isn’t anything like this, at least not also with audio description, that you can watch on TV.

Episode Grade: A-

3) The Hardy Boys (Hulu)

English Audio Description Available?: Yes

I mean, this Angela lady is obviously creepy as hell. I don’t know why the suspicion hasn’t been raised to her level of creepy yet. We should be at threat level orange or something every time she’s around.Meanwhile, did the Hardy. Dad trust the wrong woman?

Episode Grade: B+

4) Winning Time (HBO/HBO MAX)

English Audio Description Available?: Yes

That was episode nine. Next week I should be done. The only reason I feel like I’ve been watching this show forever, is because I have. I was watching it for a while, like up until episode 4, then I went and restarted it, because it wasn’t clicking. But this show just isn’t clicking. No amount of rewatching is ever going to send it to the top. That being said, I thought John C Reilly did a hell of a job in this episode.

Episode Grade: B
