The Too Much TV Roundup- June 19th

Posted on the 20 June 2022 by Sirmac2 @macthemovieguy

Today, I put myself in the position of having to choose between some heavy hitters for the top spot. Let’s just accept that this was a great day for television, for me at least.

1) Hacks (HBO MAX)

English Audio Description Available?: Yes

In the 4th episode of season,Deborah finds out she’s been booked on a lesbian cruise, which causes her to need to examine her material as she is very aware that lesbians do not like her. After making the effort to have fun, Deborah starts to believe that this might be her community after all, but she still lacks a solid stand up set.

Episode Grade: A

2) Girls5Eva (Peacock)

English Audio Description Available?: Yes

In the third episode of season 2, the girls get invited to participate in a music video for another artist that they believe will help boost their social media reach. Of course, nothing in this series ever goes right, so this gig wasn’t everything it was supposed to turn out to be, with all of our girls each seemingly having their own problems on set.

Episode Grade: A

3) Breeders (FX)

English Audio Description Available?: No

I’m consistently amazed at how Martin Freeman doesn’t get Emmy nominated for his work on this show. Not only is his performance darkly hilarious at times, but he brings so much weight to the heavier moments. In the start of Season 3, he’s still dealing with Luke refusing to live in the same house as him, and respecting that by not living in his own home, you can tell he thinks the entire thing is asinine, but he’s doing it anyway. Breeders is one of the most underrated shows on TV.

Episode Grade: A

4) Better Call Saul (AMC/Netflix)

English Audio Description Available?: Yes

In the 9th episode from season 5, Jimmy finally returns home, and he’s an absolute mess. This was likely his For Your Consideration episode, but the final 10 minutes make the whole episode.

Episode Grade: A

5) Atlanta (FX/Hulu)

English Audio Description Available?: No

In the 6th episode of Season 2, some organization needs paper Boi to sit on their new diversity board so they can seem like they are trying to be better. He’s not the only one, and this leads to him seeing a lot of other diversity picks using this opportunity to make personal gains, which he was initially trying to do himself. Meanwhile, never take rich people to your hole in a wall Nigeria restaurant. They’ll ruin it.

Episode Grade: A

6) The offer (Paramount Plus)

English Audio Description Available?: Yes

Really, a pretty great episode when you lay out the plot structure. There were some interesting choices for sure. But, some of these impersonations, especially the Al Pacino, just bring the series down for me. I believe Matthew Goode is doing Robert Evans, and while I have no idea what he looks like as Evans, that voice is like hearing Evans speak from the grave. So it’s sad that the other actors aren’t nailing their impersonations, because it really is like Robert Evans has been brought back to life for this show. The kid absolutely did stay in the picture after all.

Episode Grade: A-

6) Made For Love (HBO MAX)

English Audio Description Available?: Yes

I almost decided to not check this show’s second season out. I was going to pass on it, because I really didn’t love Season 1, and HBO already cancelled this. But I started into it, and I have to say, while it is still not my favorite, Cristin Milotti seems to be in a different and more interesting place at the beginning of the season, and Ray Romano is still very under appreciated in his role.

Episode Grade: B+
