The Small Screen Diaries- 04/17/24

We’re going to do a speed run of the very little TV I watched.

Constellation (Apple Plus) almost seemed like it would head toward a finale, except they clearly were not answering questions, and the whole storyline with Jonathan Banks wasn’t resolved. So that twist at the end wasn’t entirely unexpected. Really good audio description this whole run, especially due to the dualities happening. Top Tier.

X-Men 97 (Disney plus) revived someone from the dead, though not who you would expect, added someone to the opening credits who wasn’t even in the episode, and I don’t care because I’m still an X-Men fan. Even with crappy dialogue, and weird astral projections. I’d watch this all day every day. The audio description went back to just naming the characters, unlike last week where the students had no names. I’ll move it back up to top Tier as a result.

Three Body Problem (Netflix) sent a brain into space, gave a character unlimited power, and gave Wade a bit of a scare. He won’t be flying again anytime soon. top tier. So far, great day for audio description.

We Were The lucky Ones (Hulu) has gotten way better as a show, and is actually answering the question of how things are different here than in other holocaust dramas. This 4th episode is chilling and haunting. The whole last ten minutes are intense. The narrator is wearing me down. I’ll be honest, out of the gate, not the right narrator. Now I’m deep into the show, and it’s only if you think about it, because the stuff described is so horrifying at times that almost anyone could say it and it would still be emotionally taxing. Middle tier.

Tokyo Vice (MAX) said goodbye to a character, Yakuza style, but even with the violence in the show, and the excellent acting, this one does have one guy doing the whole thing, which is not something I’m gonna vote for. I do appreciate that this narrator, unlike another show, is trying to do something different with his voice for certain characters, but it’s still obviously him. Middle/bottom tier.
