The Lowdown: One of the best new book of 2013 continues with Callum Israel and his crew coming across a new “nation” trying to restart on an oil rig. The solicit begs the question is this the symbol of hope Israel has been looking. I am guessing no.

DC Comics

Blue Beetle #16

DC Comics Justice League

Justice League #16

The Lowdown: The Throne of Atlantis story continues. This is the crossover between Justice League and Aquaman. Atlantis has made the first move in a war against  the dryland. The Justice League is the only thing that stands in their way, but the United States is losing faith in them. The new Justice League of America series is hinted at here.

DC Comics Robin

Red Hood And The Outlaws #16

Publisher: DC Comics

Price: $2.99

The Lowdown: Jason and Tim vs the Joker, while the Outlaws and the Titans end up at each others throats. Eventually, something big is going to happen right? I mean, Jason meets the Joker after coming back from the dead can’t possibly just be meh. But it probably will be

Marvel Comics Avengers

Avengers #3

By: Jonathan Hickman, Jerome Opena, Dustin Weaver

Publisher: Marvel Comics

Price: $3.99

The Lowdown: This is the new monthly must read. Seriously, Hickman is just completely hitting it out of the park with the Avengers. These new villains are complex and really out there. He is doing the whole team gimmick where the leader as to go to each character and give them a proper invitation. Those always take so much frigging time. Thankfully, Hickman has kept it surprisingly exciting.

Deadpool

Deadpool Killustrated #1 (of 4)

By: Cullen Bunn, Matteo Lolli, Michael Del Mundo

Publisher: Marvel Comics

Price: $2.99

The Lowdown: Last year, Deadpool killed the Marvel universe. Now, he is overtaking classic literature. From the cover, it looks like he is going to have a bone to pick with Moby Dick and Captain Ahab.

X-Force

Uncanny X-Force #1

By: Sam Humphries, Ron Garney, Olivier Coipel

Among their members are Alpha Flight member, Puck, former Mojoworld merc, Spiral, and the new female Fantomex, Cluster.

Marvel Comics Winter Soldier and Black Widow

Winter Soldier #14

By: Ed Brubaker, Butch Guice, Daniel Acuna

Publisher: Marvel Comics

Price: $2.99

The Lowdown: This is going to be sad to see Ed Brubaker leave a book that he made one of the best and most consistent efforts in the industry. Bucky and a brainwashed Widow have their final confrontation.

marvel comics avengers

Young Avengers #1

By: Kieron Gillen, Jamie McKelvie

Publisher: Marvel Comics

Price: $2.99

The Lowdown: This is probably one of the most highly anticipated books of the new year. I honestly don’t know why but everyone seems to be talking about it on other comic sites. It certainly looks good, but I am missing that piece that is inspiring everyone to recommend it so highly.
