Plot: When Royal Air Force pilot Lt. Kate Sinclair is shot down over Afghanistan, she finds refuge in an abandoned underground bunker where deadly man-made biological weapons – half human, half alien – are awakened.

Story: The Lair starts when Captain Kate Sinclair (Kirk) gets shot down in Afghanistan. She gets chased down by the Afghan soldiers finding shelter in an underground bunker. However, within the bunker, Kate finds a new threat half human, half alien weapons that have been awakened.

After Kate escapes the bunker, she is rescued by Sgt, Hook (Howard) and his unit. They return her to Major Roy Finch (Bamber), as she wants to get out before the creatures come for them. Although, the military unit isn’t prepared for what has been released.

Verdict on The Lair

The Lair is an action horror movie following a group of military soldiers in Afghanistan facing off against an unknown set on creatures. It follows them needing to put aside their differences to overcome the odds and stop a threat that is much more dangerous than anyone could imagine.

This movie gets to bring Neil Marshall back to his best. By having a contained group of people battling against monsters/creatures we keep things simple. We have seen this previously in Dog Soldiers and The Descent, with this having a chance to complete a trio of excellent monster movies.

This movie gets to continue the idea of a military group fighting back and creates great action sequences. When we see the creatures, they get to have a unique approach to attacks, despite looking similar to previous creations in other films.

Final Thoughts –The Lair is a great contained monster movie.
