Story: The House starts when parents Scott (Ferrell) and Kate (Poehler) learn their daughter Alex (Simpkins) isn’t having the scholarship, she was expecting. They don’t want to let her down, so they go in search of money.

When Frank (Mantzoukas) suggests opening an illegal casino, they start seeing money fly in. With the problems looking like they are solved, things soon get out of hand.

Verdict on The House

The House is a comedy that follows two parents that create an illegal casino to solve their money problems. If this played out in a smarter style, it could have easily been a funny movie. Sadly, it goes for comedy that misses on every level, putting together a situation that would never happen. Instead, of a slow build to letting things get out of hand slowly.

The story lacks any heart, despite it being heavily about a family wanting to get their daughter into college. If more of this had been put into focus, we could have had a much more enjoyable movie. Instead, we got the comedies trying to do funny moments that really don’t fit and lots of lazy writing around what they would get up around everything.

Final Thoughts The House is an insulting comedy that misses on every single level.
