How's the weather?
We had some rain midweek that cleared the air for a day and reduced the temperature, although we're creeping back up toward 90° today. Except for the day it rained, our air quality has been orange all week, which is still much better than what's happening on the east coast.
What are you reading?
I'm between books at the moment. There are book reviews to write so I'm kind of afraid to start another book before I do that. Does anyone else have that problem? I'm worried that I'll forget what I wanted to say about books that I read last week if I dive into a book this week. Of course, the solution is to stay on top of writing my reviews. So, maybe, I'll focus on that for a few days and then, start a new book.
What are you watching?
We watched the fourth movie in the Airport series, The Concorde ... Airport '79, to complete the theme from last week. It's so bad that Roger Ebert wrote about it in his book I Hated, Hated, Hated This Movie and John Wilson (founder of the Golden Raspberry Award) included it on his list of "The 100 Most Enjoyably Bad Movies Ever Made." We laughed a lot, but we were laughing at the movie, not because it was intentionally funny.
What are you doing?
I'm in the middle of reliving a family trip to Florida fifty years ago, day-by-day. Here's the first post if you want to start at the beginning of the story: See Florida's Finest Attractions. So far, we've seen mermaids, Mickey Mouse, and a rocket launch.
What are you writing?
Most of this year, I've been playing around with my novel inside out, attempting to answer questions that I know need to be answered:
- What, exactly, did my WWII codebreaking heroines do when they were at work?
- Who are my villains and what fears are causing them to be villainous?
- How do the war events intersect with the stories of my characters?
I have some answers, but mostly I discovered that isn't my best way to approach a novel. I lose motivation and connection with the project when I attempt to tackle it in pieces.
So, this week, I started over from Scene One. I shouldn't put too much stock in one week of experience, but this felt like my most fun and productive writing week all year. Yay!
