Sunday Salon for 25 June 2023

How's the weather?

Warm and humid! I've been walking in the morning some days, which doesn't make my days flow as well but is a lot more pleasant.

What are you reading?

Sunday Salon for 25 June 2023
I started and finished Nightwork by Nora Roberts. I was ambivalent about it but read it compulsively. Since I was looking for an engaging distraction, it worked well enough.

I started The Choice, third in the Dragon Heart Legacy trilogy, also by Nora Roberts. I read the first two books a couple of years ago and I seem to be remembering just enough to keep going. Although, I'm finding it a slow start, so we'll see if I continue.

My book group enjoyed talking about You Can't Be Serious by Kal Penn, actor and former White House staffer. I recommend the audiobook as a deeper experience into what his stories about breaking through racial barriers in Hollywood and engaging in the Obama-era idealism. More thoughts in my review.

I also reviewed my fifth and sixth Alexis Hall books for my Pride Month / British Isles Friday series. These two books, Boyfriend Material and Husband Material, provided a delightful romp in London.

What are you watching?

I'm enjoying the Korean series Extraordinary Attorney Woo on Netflix about a genius autistic savant (a very rare point on the autism spectrum). I wondered how the autism community saw the representation in the show and was not too surprised to discover that it's complicated. This article on Polygon is an excellent explanation.

What are you doing?

I performed some long-neglected maintenance on my blog last week. I'm always afraid that I'll break my blog, which causes me to keep putting it off. Fortunately, it went quite smoothly.

The tool I previously used for my website backup was so old that it not only failed to work, but it also failed to update itself. So, I started from scratch and discovered that my webhost has a tool that was easier than what I used to do.

My new resolution is to back up and update my blog every six weeks or so. I'm also going to tackle some other neglected tasks, now that I'm more aware of some resources to help.

What are you writing?

I neglected my novel this week for family reasons but intend to get back to it on Monday.

How are you on this fine Sunday?
