Story: Son of the South starts when Bob Zellner (Till) wants to do a study on the civil rights movement during the 1961 incidents. However, his decision starts to see the fellow white people in his life questioning his decisions. His partner Carol Ann (Hale) thinks he is needlessly risking his life.
However, his decision sees him meet Reverend Abernathy (Entertainer) Rosa Parks (Lanier) and Joanne (Davis). He decides he wants to join the freedom movement to help stand up against the bigots trying to keep segregation in Mississippi.
Verdict on Son of the South
Son of the South is a drama following a white student that decided to do the right thing and stand up with black people demanding the end of segregation. It follows the challenges he faces as he unwillingly becomes the face of the movement and challenges the people closest to him.
This is another one of the many movies that shows that taking a stand for what is right can come at a risk. It shows that change only comes when people take a stand and demand the equality the deserve. However, this could be seen as a movie where it is a white guy becoming the hero of a black story. It puts far to much focus on his own struggles compared to the bigger ones outside of his world.
Final Thoughts – Son of the South is the typical stand up and be counted movie.
