Story: Reptile starts when businessman Will Grady (Timberlake) discovers his girlfriend murdered in their home. Detective Tom Nichols (Del Toro) leads the investigation into the murder with his partner Dan Cleary (Essandoh). His reputation is big, and his ability is never questioned.
However, once the case starts getting investigated, the victim seems to have their secret life. As Tom looks to solve the case, he finds himself dealing with a host of suspects as he deals with his own personal problems from his past.
Verdict on Reptile
Reptile is a mystery thriller following a detective with a big reputation trying to solve a murder case. However, every time he thinks he has got near to solving it, another twist comes along. All leading him to try and solve a case that becomes bigger than he ever imagined.
This is an interesting thriller that feels like it could have been a series of True Detective. However, that is where the bigger problem comes from. There isn’t enough focus on the murder case, as everything spirals into a bigger situation going on within the world. It ends up feeling like it should have been flushed out more than it is, because everything ends up feeling a lot more squashed together. This doesn’t give the reveals enough time to make an impact on the bigger story.
