Story: Official Secrets starts when NSA employee Katharine Gun (Knightley) discovers a document that reveals a secret about the fixed vote for a potential war. Katharine leaks the documents to the press with journalist Martin Bright (Smith) writing a story.

As Katharine faces the reality of what she has done, Martin needs to continue to prove the documents are real. What follows is a series of consequences that could stop a potential war or create a new one.

Verdict on Official Secrets

Official Secrets is a political thriller following the real events that led to a leaked memo about the war in Iraq. It shows how one woman shock the system by leaking the memo and the consequences she went on to face.

This is an important story to be told and over time it will become one of the most important exposes in history. However, the way this is told holds things back too much. There doesn’t seem to be any connection between Katharine and the journalists. It all feels like two stories going on, without going deeper enough into what happens once the story gets revealed. There might be a time when we get a more intense dive into the truth and consequences of the story.

Final Thoughts Official Secrets is an interesting dive into a massive scandal.
