If your energy is constantly feeling zapped throughout the week, then this post is for you.

It is not our jobs’ responsibilities that zap our energy – it is us that does it to ourselves. We have to remember that we are responsible for every thought, every emotion and idea, that comes up for us.

This doesn’t mean that we are necessarily in control of our thoughts and emotions. Sometimes, they control us and we may find ourselves constantly reacting to different situations negatively.

Although we may be physically tired after we have finished our work and other responsibilities, the biggest energy-zapper is the negative thought processes that we have – and our reactions to them.

There is always a balance of good and bad in everything that we do, think and feel. The question is, how do we react to the good and the bad? If we are constantly having crazy ups and downs, how quickly do you think our energy would be zapped?

So often, we mistake this reaction and lack of energy for tiredness and feed our bodies with more caffeine or more sugar, creating artificial energy spikes for ourselves.

Unfortunately, however, our bodies react to this by producing more stress hormones – thus making us even more on edge.

The best way to get more energy is, ironically, to feel calmer, more balanced, and more at peace. Rather than waiting for the next best thing to do this for us – a major example would be holidays – it’s important to be able to find this level of peace in our day-to-day lives.

Being a high-energy person myself, I have an annoying tendency to push myself and ramp everything up to a ridiculous level, thus tiring myself out very quickly. I have learnt to find some ways to obtain balance and calm myself down a bit in order to introduce this type of welcome order into my life.

The biggest are:

  • Yoga – creating a flow which carries through into my every day life
  • Meditation – this inspires peace and calmness of the mind; something which is unobtainable from any other practice
  • Sleep – Getting a good nights’ sleep every night enables me to be able to recover daily and rejuvenate
  • Healthy eating – Regardless of your goal, eating the correct nutrients and having a whole-food diet is the only way to feel completely well.

How do you maintain energy throughout your work week?
