Know What Is In Your Lunch

Many Americans enjoy a lunch or dinner at a restaurant. No cooking or washing dishes and someone is waiting on you. You can just sit down and enjoy your meal. Americans have suffered from being overweight for decades. The old saying, “knowledge is power” is so true. If you knew what was in the foods that you were eating at a restaurant you would not have your family step one foot in it. Know what you and your family are eating.

He is an example of a meal at Friendly’s:

Chicken Strip entrée with BBQ sauce:

Calories 1130
Calories from fat 580
Fat 58 grams
Saturated fat 9 grams
Salt 1740 grams
Sugar 20 grams

Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup Sunday (3 scoops of ice cream):

Calories 890
Calories from fat 470
Fat 52 grams
Saturated fat 50 grams
Sodium 380 grams
Sugar 59 grams

Total for the meal and desert without a drink:

Calories 2020 calories
Fat 1500 calories
Fat 108 grams
Saturated fat 59 grams
Salt 2120 grams
Sugar 79 grams

This is for one meal. The amount of calories are more than an average person should have in one day. The Dietary Guideline for Americans recommend less than 2300 grams of salt a day. This meal almost hits that number. The American Heart Association recommends that a female should not have more than 6 teaspoons of sugar a day and a male should not have more than 9 teaspoons of sugar a day. This meal is over that amount. The fat is well over what an average nutrition program allows.
