Story: Into the Deep starts as Jess (Smith) is still grieving her mother’s death while trying to make the most of her young life. Along with her best friend Emi (Chadha), she gets dared into asking a tourist Ben (Daddario) out to a party.

When the two discover an unconscious woman Lexie (Alexander), they offer her help. This takes the story in a very different direction, as Jess must decide who is telling the truth.

Verdict on Into the Deep

Into the Deep is a thriller that lets a young woman tackle her own problems with grief. It takes place long after her mother’s death but deep down she has never recovered from it. This takes us into a wild ‘Dead Calm’ like environment, stuck at sea without knowing who is the honest one.

The story does keep us guessing, doing a very good job at keeping both Lexie and Ben in a suspicious position. It does, however, fall flat with the final delivery, as not everything makes enough sense to what happens by the end.

The performances in the movie are strong, with Ella-Rae Smith as the more innocent victim thrown into the bigger mix. Using open water as the main location helps because there is no easy escape for anyone involved.

Final Thoughts Into the Deep is a simple thriller that never really gets going.
