I Had No Goals Set This Year

It is that time of the year when you starting taking stock of what have you done and what have you achieved in the last 12 months. I usually have few but clear goals each year, but while pondering over the events of 2018 I realized that it was one of those rare years of my adult life when I had absolutely no yearly goals set. You know how American students have a concept of 'GAP' year between their high school and college. I guess, I applied the same concept to my life this year.

As some one who is supremely goal oriented and driven by lists and organizers, I set myself free from it all this past year. Besides my life goals which pretty much will stay consistent till I die, I decided to take decisions in the moment and live in present in 2018. And a year later, I am happy to report that I have never been more relaxed and at peace before.

I have no complaints. I have no disappointments. I am not burnt out. And I do not need to recharge and relax. I was successfully able to incorporate down time with my busy time throughout the year. I did whatever was the need of the hour, but I also carved out time for myself to unwind and relax. 2018 was when I truly put myself first. I did not let guilt, stress or comparison run my life. I actively listened to my brain and body and did what truly was in sync with my sensibilities and lifestyle.

I had a successful reading year. As of today I have read 105 books and probably will end up reading 5 more before the year ends.

I had a successful podcasting year. My podcast was chosen as one of the top 8 new podcasts to be launched by iTunes.

I had a fit year. I worked out 4-5 times most weeks (barring travel). And I am stronger than ever before. I have successfully stayed off Sugar for last 10 months.

Also, this was my most successful blogging year so far.

Just because I did not set any specific goals, does not mean I was slacking. It just means that I have goals which last longer than a year's duration. But also, that I am able to work hard and achieve results even without implementing conventional way of viewing life.

I guess, the point I am trying to make is that it is okay to not do what you have always done. It is okay to not have clear goals. It is also okay to not know where you are headed. As long as you can see the bigger picture and constantly strive to follow your passions, you will find your path as you move forward. That's my 2018 in a nutshell. How was you 2018?
These are pictures from my trip to Istanbul in 2017. They never made it to the blog. Hence!
