High Tea at Como The TreasuryIf you're not familiar with the concept of high tea, what better place to familiarise yourself with this old English tradition than at Como The Treasury. And if you are, this British custom of an afternoon meal with a cup of tea is certainly a cut above the rest. Located in Perth's 140-year-old State Buildings, it's a decadent affair and they make the most of the state's amazing produce, which is sourced from all over Western Australia.

High tea can be enjoyed over three rooms, which are large, spacious and elegantly decorated. The afternoon I was there, the main room had been booked out for a private function so my sister in law and I were seated in one of the adjoining two rooms.

The food is delightfully delicate, appearing on a two-tiered stand with sweets artfully arranged on the top and savoury on the bottom. An assortment of warmed scones, freshly baked is also served with jam and cream.

Eyeing off the desserts, we decide to kick things off with the selection of sandwiches and quiche. The bread is fluffy, crust removed and the filling is wonderful; soft, white chicken breast, creamy honey mustard (Jarrah honey sourced from Pemberton) with a scattering of baby spinach.

The smoked ham, artichoke and Parmesan quiche was also a favourite. Crisp, buttery pastry with a creamy filling, this miniature creation contains Berkshire pork from Doodlakine in WA. Because of the marbling in the meat, it's juicy and tender and the flavour of the ham is evident yet subtle in this delicious morsel.

We attacked the scones next and with a cup of tea, they're the ideal afternoon nosh. Light and fluffy with a crunchy golden top, the chefs at Como The Treasury certainly know what they're doing. These scones were incredibly moreish and with a dollop of jam and cream, they were quickly polished off.

The desserts look incredible and tasted equally as good. The blueberry cremeux, blueberry jelly, berry curd, coconut whipped ganache was heavenly. Surprisingly light, but an incredible taste sensation, it was my pick out of the three sweets.

I loved the lemon myrtle cream, hazelnut streusel and Swiss meringue. The ideal palate cleanser, the lemon flavour was light and refreshing and just the right balance of sweet and sour.
