Verdict on Hi-Fear

The Streets Are Watching (D. Anthony Catanese)

The Streets Are Watching follows a group of street kids that are trying to survive. They all have different stories about one of the homeless people on the streets. The man is known as Krazy Killer Karl and the mystery about him becomes the biggest point of conversation. However, when he starts trying to warn one of them, it becomes clear what he has been doing on the streets.

This is an excellent short story, showing how people can judge without knowing. It shows how dangerous the streets can be and how people can not always understand the pain. This keeps us guessing and has shocking moments in it. (4/5)

When Shadows Come Alive (D. Tim Ritter)

When Shadows Come Alive follows a strange killer getting haunted by something in their life. They pick off suspects while trying to escape their problems in a small-town American environment. We end up going down a darker path with a much bigger thing going on.

This is a strange story, it shows the low budget behind it. It does feel more confusing than it needs to be, as we are trying to keep up with who is behind the killing. This feels like a weak link in the series as it could have had more shock around everything. Despite having a clever twist surrounding everything that unfolds. (2/5)

Losing It At The Devil’s Whorehouse (D. Todd Sheets)

Losing It At The Devil’s Whorehouse follows three friends that head to a whorehouse to help their friend Jason lose his virginity. However, the ladies in the house have their own plans for the young man. Now the friends must try to escape from the sacrifice being placed upon them.

This is the first chapter into the stories, it gets to play in the insecurities between young men. There is plenty of sex and gore in this short story. It works for shock and gives us an early start to the horrors to come. (3/5)

Day Out of Days (D. Brad Sykes)

Day Out of Days follows Taylor, Laura and Alexis sharing a cabin while preparing for a film shoot. However, when Taylor and Alexis find themselves being the only ones to turn up for the shot, they know something is wrong. Meanwhile, Laura starts to connect to something else in the woods, as the three start struggling to deal with the heat from the summer weather.

This is an unusual story that dives into the unknown. It sees the characters trying to cope with difficult conditions. There is plenty of mystery here, without being truly scary. (3/5)

This is the wrap-around story following Natalie with her stories. It shows how this is playing into her mind and taking it out of her as her fears are coming to life. This is a nice story to follow along with. (3/5)

Hi-Fear

Hi-Fear is a series of short stories with different elements of horror. It has a mix of quality and length, which ends up being a weakness for them. Some of the stories do feel too long but then not long enough. While some work better in shorter forms because certain stories feel dragged along. However, it will offer something for every horror fan out there.
