Story: Halloween Ends starts four years after the events of the last movie. Laurie (Curtis) lives with Allyson (Matichak) and they both have moved on with their lives. Nobody has seen Michael Myers and whenever a crime happens, the mystery of the incident becomes questioned.

As Allyson looks to start a relationship with an outside in the town Corey (Campbell), bodies start turning up. Has Michael finally returned this year and who is he after now?

Verdict on Halloween Ends

Characters

Laurie is now writing a book about her experiences; she has moved back into the town and finds herself checking on any violent crime. She wants to help Allyson have a fresh life including playing matchmaking. Laurie doesn’t plan for Michael’s return, which seems strange compared to what we have seen from her before.

Allyson has moved on with her life too, she now works as a nurse and spends time remembering her parents. She has accepted life has changed and Michael is gone, starting a new relationship with an outsider in town.

Corey was involved in an accidental death, this has led him to become an outsider in the town. He starts spending time with Allyson but the shadow from his past continues to follow him.

Michael hasn’t been seen since the events of that last night, the town still fears him and questions what happened to him. The question is whether he has returned or why he has been hiding.

Performances

Jamie Lee Curtis has been in this franchise for decades now, seemingly every film has seen a change in what she needs to bring. This might well be the oddest one we have seen from her that has the best parts in the trailer. Andi Matichak does a solid job as the ‘final girl’ trying to move on with her life. Rohan Campbell brings the best performance in the film, with a difficult role to play.

Story

The story follows the aftermath of the Halloween attacks, Michael has vanished and Laurie has moved on with her life. Violent crimes continue to get investigated in fear he has returned but the town has mostly moved on.

This story takes a very different direction, it is going to be one that could easily upset people and does feel very out of place. It does feel like it misses, despite the concept being a good idea. The franchise could have done with a more focused conclusion because the final act of the film, is probably the best part of the story.

It would be fair to say this story will divide the audience and will have plenty of people discussing it by the end of the movie.

Themes

Halloween Ends is the ‘final’ chapter of the Halloween saga, seeing the horror icon return for another outing. The movie doesn’t hold back on the body count, even if it does seem to hold back on the violent nature.

Final Thoughts Halloween Ends will go down as a divisive conclusion to the series.
