Foods That Are A Good Source Of Protein

Protein helps repair the body and consists of amino acids. Amino acids are the building block of muscles. Athletes might need more protein than the average person. A healthy diet should include about 30% of its calories from protein. This is a good starting point. Adjust according to your body type, and activity level.

Foods High In Protein

CHICKEN BREAST

Chicken has about 8 grams of protein per once. This is one of the cheapest source of protein. Chicken is a good lunch choice. Look for skinless chicken breasts. This cut provides less fat than the dark meat. Trim any execs fat from the breast before cooking.

FISH AND SEAFOOD

Salmon, tilapia, and tuna are just a few high protein fish foods available. Salmon is also a great source of protein. Include salmon in your weekly meal plan. Salmon is great on the grill, baked, or even microwaved. Use fresh herbs to bring out the great taste salmon has to offer. Be cautious of fish such as tuna and swordfish that contain high levels of mercury. Eat these type of fish in moderation.

LEAN BEEF

Beef is a great source of protein, B vitamins and iron. When purchasing beef, look for the leanest cut. Top sirloin, and top round are a couple of leaner choices. Buy ground beef that is 90% lean or leaner. If possible go for grass-fed. Grass-fed beef has added omega-3.

EGG WHITES

Egg whites are a great source of protein. The yolk of the egg is high in fat and cholesterol. For fewer calories and fat remove the yolk. Egg whites are sold in a carton for convenience. Just be sure to read the ingredient label. Some brands add a lot of fillers.

BEANS

Beans provides a complete protein and are high in fiber. There are many varieties of beans that could be incorporated in dishes that are hot or cold. Beans are higher in calories, be careful of the serving sizes.

DAIRY

Dairy is a good source of protein. Some dairy is higher in sugar and fat. Read each label carefully when picking out your dairy. Cottage cheese is a great choice.
