Rise of the Planet of the Apes is almost here.
The latest high tech remake of the Sci Fi classic is hitting theaters soon, with an entire research lab full of CGI Apes ready to mess you up. The trailers show enough explosions and green screen special effects to make even a die hard basement action hero put down his video controller for a few hours. The movie is totally New School.
But if you ask me, when it comes to getting your Cornelius and Zira on, the Only School is Old School.
If foam rubbers masks and hairy Vibram 5 Toe Running Shoes were good enough for Roddy McDowall, then they were good enough for me. I’ll admit that more than a few days of my youth were spent with my big head stuck inside an astronaut helmet, doing my best Charlton Heston.
Fast forward on a quick spaceship ride to the future…as opposed to an Ape filled spaceship ride to the past…which was really our present (…pick up the VHS box set if I lost you on that last one…) and I gotta admit that hunkering down in my tree hut on a rainy Sunday with a non-stop block of 5 POTA flicks on TBS is still some epic Monkey Biz.
