Varsha Bhosle, the daughter of legendary singer Asha Bhosle committed suicide in the wee hours of the morning by shooting herself at the singer’s residence in the Prabhu Kunj building at Peddar Road in Mumbai.
She shot herself in the head with a licensed weapon present in the singer’s residence. It was the neighbours who called the police after hearing the gun shot. She was taken to a nearby hospital where she was declared dead.
Asha Bhosle was not present in the house at the time of the incident as she was in Singapore to attend a concert. Her aunt, Lata Mangeshkar was also not present at the time of the incident.
The 55 year old Varsha was Asha’s daughter from her first marriage to Ganpatrao Bhosle. She was a singer and a journalist who, was married to and divorced from freelance sports writer Hemant Kenkre and went into a state of depression after that. In 2008, she attempted suicide by consuming sleeping pills, but was rushed to the hospital and was saved.
