Story: Dreamkatcher starts when Luke (Thomas) takes his son Josh (Wojtak-Hissong) and new girlfriend Gail (Mitchell) away to an old family home in the country. With Luke needing to return to the city, he leaves Gail to spend time with Josh, as the two try to bond with each other, despite the differences between the pair.

When Josh and Gail discover Ruth (Shaye) in a nearby home, she tells them about dreamcatchers, with Josh taking one, hoping it will help him remember his mother more, only there is an evil connected to the dreamcatcher, that possess Josh for its own evil purpose.

Thoughts on Dreamkatcher

ThoughtsDreamkatcher is a horror thriller that will keep us in a remote location for the horror, as the awkward bonding between a potential new step mom and son are put into the spotlight, as the boy is still grieving the loss of his real mother. With this catalyst in place, the evil spirit from the dreamcatcher is going to thrive, as the slow possession of the boy takes over, make the little acts against the new step mum, seem like normal reactions to someone tyring to replace his mother. When it gets to the purely horror creation, it is something from nightmares, but outside of Josh, not enough people see what is happening, as the new step mom is using her own expert skills in child psychology to try and manage the situation. When we get the scares they are solid enough, but it will feel like we did need more to make the biggest impact in everything we see. The performances in the film are solid, with Radha Mitchell, Lin Shaye, Henry Thomas and new-comer Finlay Wojtak-Hissong give their characters everything we need to make the biggest impact they can on screen.

Final Thoughts Dreamkatcher is a solid horror, with good scares, a nice idea, a good cast.
