A Telenovela Star Might Be In Trouble With The Law For Slapping A Reporter

Eduardo Yanez, a Mexican telenovela star, is being investigated on assault and battery charges after he slapped a reporter upside the head during a red carpet interview in L.A. No, Univision reporter Paco Fuentes didn’t ask Eduardo to stick his hands in the Mani-Cam, he asked him about his son Eduardo Yanez Jr.

According to TMZ:

The slap was captured on video. Yanez lost it after Fuentes tried shaming him by saying his son had to set up a GoFundMe account to pay for car repairs because Yanez wouldn’t. Yanez and his son have a strained relationship that became very public back in June after Yanez’s son accused him on Twitter of being a drug addict, racist and woman abuser.

Here’s the incident.

Eduardo Senior is either the Mexican equivalent of Jared Leto, going full method and living his life as if it were an actual soap opera where the dramatic slapping of foes is expected. Or there’s perhaps some truth in his son’s allegations. The looks on the faces of the other people in the clip are less shock and more “not this shit again.” So I know which way I’m leaning. I love a good TV slap (or, even better a wig snatch), but in real life, when you slap someone, you could get investigated.

After the incident, Paco filed a report with the LAPD. If Eduardo were to be charged, he could face a maximum of 6 months in jail. Eduardo has since issued an apology on Twitter.

Quiero pedir una sincera disculpa al público y a la persona afectada por mi acción. No fue la correcta. Mi vida personal no está a la venta.

“I want to sincerely apologize to the public and to the person affected by my action. It was not the right one. My personal life is not for sale.” – via Google Translate

Let’s put it through the ASS (apology sincerity system): beepboopbeboop. Computer says – Bullshit apology to avoid trouble/getting fired. He couldn’t even bring himself to say Paco’s name. And the last sentence is the real red flag here, it basically says, “That running mouth asked for the hand!”
