Zurich – A Day in Pictures

By Aswesawit @aswesawit

Dear Luke and Leia,

Here we are in Switzerland! I decided to share our first day in pictures as we roamed Zurich, a beautiful alpine city. Zurich is located at the tip of Lake Zurich, among the Swiss Alps on the northern border of Switzerland.

Strolling the Streets of Zurich

While walking the city streets, the first thing we noticed is how well kept and clean everything was. Also quickly noticed the price difference using the Swiss Franc versus the Euro and US Dollar. The Franc has more purchasing power and thus a stronger currency in the region, which in ‘financialese’ means that regular things are more expensive here.

Visiting the lakefront

Our second favorite area was along Lake Zurich and the walkways along the lakefront. The mountain lake just added to the feel of what you would expect Switzerland to be. Beyond the lake, the magnificent Swiss Alps rise into view. By the numerous boats that we saw in several marinas it was easy to see that the locals love their lake as well.

The famous Swiss chocolates at a candy shop

I did say the lakefront was our second favorite place … our favorite place was the extremely colorful, vibrant candy shops that are dotted around Zurich, all selling delicious Swiss chocolate.

The many colorful choices and flavor selections would confound anyone. It was a daunting task to select which ones to take with us. This was the hardest part of our trip, not walking out with one of everything.

Evening in Zurich and discovering a music festival

After our day walking around, enjoying the scenes, and a few chocolates along the journey, we learned about a music festival along the lakefront. So after enjoying fondue, one of the national dishes, we headed back to the waterfront to listen to the music and watch the various musicians offering their skills for the crowds. What a wonderful environment! The sun was setting, the full moon was rising and our ears perked up to the beat.

It sure was a full day wandering around Zurich, taking in all the superb offerings of Zurich. It left us totally exhausted and in severe need of sleep. Heading off to bed now, guys, as we have an early day tomorrow, but you’ll have to wait for the next letter on that. Miss you two.

Love,

Nana and Pap
