Once upon a time, India had only small and independent shops. They could be found clustered in a marketplace and also huddled snugly in almost every lane, colony and bordering almost all roads. Then came the departmental stores and big malls. The small retailers started fearing and predicting a loss in their business. And now, the era of online shopping is here. No matter how many electronics we buy to quicken our work, the fact is that we are getting busier and busier. And our roads are getting busier and busier too, full of crowd at all times. And hence the rapidly rising popularity of online shopping. It may be more expensive, but it's comfortable and can be done from home and office. Consumers love it, but the retailers hate it.
But here comes a service that seeks to bridge the gap between online shopping and offline retailers. This is Zopper and it claims to be India's largest hyper mobile marketplace which features over 5,00,000 retailers. Zopper helps users to determine the best price of the product of their choice and get information about its availability with local retailers.
Zopper recently updated their Android app (they don't seem to have an iOS app yet). The updated app allows the users to search for their desired products using model number, category or brand to find out its best price in local market. The app also enables users to request price quotes from nearby merchants. The app allows some customization to fine-tune the search results. It also helps the user in reaching a decision in case the user is not sure which product to buy. The users only have to input their desired criteria of the product. And of course, the users can purchase the product from the app itself.
If you visit Zopper's website, you'll see that they assure of 100% genuine products, 24 hours express shipping for free, and facility of Pay on Delivery. I did not spot any return policy though.
Zopper service is as yet present only in Delhi/NCR, Mumbai, Bangalore, Jaipur, Chandigarh, Hyderabad and Kolkata. But it is going to spread over to 30 Indian cities within next 12 months. And I think they only feature electronics yet as the app is called Zopper - Mobiles & Electronics.
