The video chat service saw massive growth during the COVID-19 quarantines 300 million daily meeting participants through April and outperforms other giants in space including Google Meet and Microsoft teams. While Zoom was originally primarily used for professional video conferencing, it quickly gained popularity for chatting with family and friends.
Expanding Zoom to all of these smart displays seems to position the app as a home service for social networking rather than a workplace tool. "We're excited to bring Zoom to these popular devices," said Oded Gal, Zoom's chief product officer, in a press release. "It is more obvious than ever that people are looking for easy-to-use displays for their video communication needs, both professionally and personally."
Google Assistant-enabled smart displays use video calls the most, according to Lilian Rincon, senior director of product management at Google Assistant. Integrating zoom directly into the displays makes it easier for users to use the service, she added.
The zoom will arrive at Facebook portal in September and on Amazon Echo Show and Google Assistant devices through the end of the year.
