Zoom Announces Metaverse App for Video Conferences

Posted on the 23 May 2022 by Nftnewspro

Zoom’s “breakout rooms” are entering the metaverse.

According to a new blog post, Zoom has recently announced new metaverse features to its well-known “breakout rooms”. Due to new collaboration with Welo app, employees can create a real virtual space for a more interactive video conference experience.

As reported Zoom’s blog post, Welo creates a digital workspace where people can use in-app avatars to see and connect with others. Whenever employees want to move from one group to another, they can move around this small metaverse space. The app will automatically sync with any group the user intends to connect with.

Besides increasing connection during virtual sessions, Zoom wishes that the Welo combination will make these sessions more efficient and beneficial. The company has highlighted award features such as embedding notes in Welo which may make work more integrated and interactive.

Presently, Welo for Breakout Rooms is in beta mode, and the company aims to upgrade this offering in the coming months.

While Welo is the most important new feature from a metaverse point of view, Zoom introduced many other updates in its latest blog post. The major innovation highlighted by Zoom was “Collaboration Mode”, that is originally designed to add a more “interactive” element to “screen-sharing”.

With “Collaboration Mode”, anyone who hosts Zoom call can share their screen and allow others to access the app they are using. Some examples of zoom used to illustrate “Collaboration Mode” contain working on a shared whiteboard through Miro or working on a document with Coda.

Any Zoom user who wants to try out these new features can click on “Applications” and “Discover” to see everything that is presently available.

Business make the most of metaverse meetings

“The Metaverse” covers many technologies and topics, but the main idea is to combine virtual and physical space. Though metaverse gaming usually make headlines, innovations such as zoom’s Welo show companies are interested in even more practical aspects of this tech.

As remote work gets more common, more and more people appear to be reluctant to use metaverse technologies to overcome physical barriers. In fact, ReportLinker lately stated that global epidemic constraints have led to more acceptance of metaverse applications.
