Z-Type is a brain training game which is wonderfully simple and also about as addictive as crack cocaine. The idea is winningly simple: random words drift down from the top of your computer screen and you have to (furiously) type them out before they hit the bottom (an unmitigated personal disaster). Once you correctly type a word your gun fires unerringly accurate shots which blow the blighters to smithereens. Although it’s something of a busman’s holiday for people who spend most of their day plonked in front of a keyboard (like this journalist) it’s bizarrely exciting. The music’s also a blast. Best be off now – I’ve got to beat my pb.
