Sri Lanka’s fastest runner Yupun Abeykoon once again came to the limelight when he clocked an impressive 10.08s (-1.2m/s) to finish 5th in the Men’s 100m at the Ostrava Golden Spike – Continental Tour Gold in the Czech Republic on Tuesday.

Abeykoon the 27 year athlete who established both 100m and 200m National records as well as South Asian records has been terrific in recent times. He established his personal best 100m with a 10.06 on six days before in Germany once again clocked 10.08seconds is the second fastest legal time he has run in competition. He ran to finished fifth place but his achievement is more important to go forward.

British sprinter Reece Prescod delivered an excellent run of 9.93sec to crush a strong 100m field in Ostrava on Tuesday and reinstated himself as a factor on the world stage.

This made him the first European to break the 10 second barrier this year. The second to sixth places were separated by just 0.03s, with veteran Yohan Blake of Jamaica taking Silver with a run of 10.05 and Zharnel Hughes also finishing with a time of 10.05s in third place.

This run will take Yupun Abeykoon closer to qualifying for the IAAF World Championships set to be held in Oregon from July 15. Actually this is ’A’ grade meet.

Yupun already having 1208 points and he is having good chance to take part at the World Championships. He is already in 35-36 positions while the qualification standard 10.05 seconds to the World Championships.
