You probably already know that your skin changes as you get
older. In fact, if you are looking for information on skin tightening, you
probably already have sagging skin and wrinkles that you want to treat. What
you may not realize is that your complexion plays a major role in the type of
skin treatment that you should have.
Universal Changes Skin Experiences with Age As we get older all of us, regardless of complexion, experience certain universal skin changes. Skin can get dry, leathery, scarred, or wrinkly. All of those problems are treatable, but the fixes for them depend on many different factors.
Issues Unique to Those Who Have Darker Complexions Those with darker skin may also have a few issues to contend with that lighter-skinned people don't have. Those issues are:
ñTheir skin may be thicker than that of a person with light colored skin. ñTheir skin may be more oily. ñTheir skin pigmentation is different due to a different distribution of melanin, and the melanocytes that control the distribution of melanin respond differently to certain skin treatments than those of a person whose skin is a lighter color.
Obviously, all of those differences are going to influence the outcome of certain skincare treatments.
Selecting a Laser Skin Treatment Accordingly There are plenty of different types of medical lasersto treat skin conditions, but not all of them are good for darker complexions. For example, lasers that disturb or strip away the top layer of skin (known as ablative lasers) might irritate oil glands or leave light skin patches, if your skin is dark or oily. So, you might be better off to stick to non-ablative laser treatments. There are also entirely different types of laser treatments to look into, including Co2 and Fraxal treatments.
More Clinic Procedures and Skin Tightening Alternatives Lasers are not your only options, regardless of your complexion. There are plenty of clinic procedures, and even at-home treatments that may work for you. At home treatments include hand devices, creams, and lotions. But it's important to remember that none of those will work overnight. You will need to use them every single day for a long time. Also, none of them are meant to treat severe wrinkles or skin sags.
When it comes to clinical options, you have a lot more choices to pick from, and all of them should show faster results. Some of them include:
ñChemical Peels ñMicrodermabrasion ñUltrasound Therapy (Ultherapy) ñRadio Frequency Treatment (RF) ñIntense Pulsed Light Treatment (IPL)
In extreme cases, facelift surgery might be required to fix sagging skin, but many of these other options will work in most cases. The best part is that they're also more versatile in that most of them can treat multiple body parts, not just the face.
Between all of those and all of the laser devices out there, you should be able to find just the right solution. But you may need help to do so. Talk to your local skincare clinic about your options. They can get you started down the right path.
