Greek glamour
Grab yourself a little Greek glamour in the boudoir by choosing natural materials that pulse with style. Stone floors in limestone or marble and mosaic tiles were a popular feature of Greek interiors, as were columns and pillars flanking doorways, fireplaces or other architectural elements. The colors used in Ancient Greece drew on the natural world, with earthy tones, terracotta and pale stone colors all popular. Pottery and glassware featuring shots of blue and green were widely appreciated, as were clay urns and vases depicting Greek life. Bedrooms with historical Greek flavor embrace mosaics and columns. Try mosaic-topped side tables and a grand bed, swathed with white muslin drapes, and carved plaster columns for real glamour, Greek-style. Greek interiors were simple and less lavish than their Roman equivalents, but they still enjoyed glints of luxury here and there. Gilded and dark wooden furniture and adisplay cabinet housing Greek-inspired antique glassware and pottery will reinforce the lux message, whilst allowing the rest of the room a simpler feel.

Medieval moods
The massive influence of TV shows such as Game of Thrones has been widely evident in popular culture, including the world of interiors. The historic interiors on the show are both stylish and well observed and feature plenty of faux fur, black sheep’s wool, rustic stone, crude wrought iron work and simple rough-hewn furniture, including thrones! A bedroom echoing a Thrones/Medieval theme should feature a gigantic bed, possibly four-poster, covered in heavy throws, faux furs and warming blankets. Wall finishes should be rough and textured; consider stone or rustic plaster or possibly Hessian for a warmer feel. Wall tapestries, taxidermy and iron candle sconces will underline the Dark Ages atmosphere while an impressive throne or feature chair in a window alcove is optional…
Daring Art Deco
For a bedroom that oozes style and has a more modern aesthetic, Art Deco is a wise choice. Art Deco was born in the early 20th century and exploited and celebrated the new manufacturing processes that were becoming available. The sinuous, organic lines of Art Nouveau were replaced with more blocky, geometric shapes – straight lines and symmetry were everywhere. Today this look can be achieved in the bedroom with a clever use of glossy lacquered surfaces, mirrors, geometric patterns, chrome and glass. A bed cover in shiny satin in signature duck egg blue makes a wonderful place to start with an Art Deco bedroom scheme. Dark, shiny mahogany or walnut veneers, mirrored furniture and deep cream-colored carpets add a touch of luxury. Whether your interpretation of Art Deco is classic Parisian or marvelous Miami, you won’t run out of ideas for creating the most elegant of bedrooms.
