Young Jesus has shared the stirring story of ‘Brenda & Diane’ ahead of the release of new album ‘The Fool’ on 24 May via Saddle Creek.
Very much in the character-driven Springsteen/Hold Steady space – but with more choice swearing – it tells the tale of an encounter with a couple of down-on-their-luck drifters on the run and how they managed to knock the main character’s arrogance and end up actually humbling inspiring him: ‘I was playing my songs, I’ve had some ups and downs, I’ve played to no one at all except Brenda and Diane, a couple of drinks in their hands’.
It finishes with Brenda and Diane reminding the narrator ‘Your life is a gift’ before he then loses an important note…
