F*cked Up guitarist Ben Cook has shared ‘Try Not to Hang On So Hard’ ahead of the release of his solo project Young Guv’s upcoming album ‘GUV II’ via Run For Cover Records later this year. Already drawing praise from Pitchfork, the record was written in a Brooklyn flat and is full of acute and wry observations of the human psyche.
‘Try Not to Hang On So Hard’ is a two-and-a-half-minute blast of early ’90s-inspired indie rock with a tantalising lo-fi aesthetic and heart-on-the-sleeve lyrics: ‘I know you have a broken heart, I let you sleep away’. It finishes with Ben pleading for the subject of his affections to ‘hang on so hard’ again and again.
