They exist. These albums where everything fits together perfectly as if by magic and genre boundaries are effortlessly overcome.
"Murder at Maple Mountain" by Young Acid is one of these albums.
As much as I don't like the term "supergroup", when musicians like Arvid Hällagård (Greenleaf), Martin Wegeland (Domkraft), Alex Stjernfeldt (Grand Cadaver), Andreas Baier (Besvärjelsen) and Svante Karlsson (The Moth) come together to form a band, then this term fits like a glove.
Anyone who knows the bands of the musicians mentioned above will recognize influences here and there and even though the album sounds like it was made from a single mold and follows a common thread, it is still difficult to categorize it into a single genre.
"Murder At Maple Mountain" full of high-energy, fuzz-soaked rock with an extra punch of post-punk, 80s garage, a touch of classic rock, stoner,death rock and proto doom - with lyrics inspired by Astrid Lindgren's 1954 novel 'Mio, My Son'.
This debut is angular and edgy to be too pleasing and yet it grabs you from the first minute. It doesn't just want to please, it wants to convince with great songs and lyrics. Young Acid have found exactly the right mix here. An album that sticks in your head and stays.
All spread over 10 songs in just over 30 minutes - a fast and energetic pedal-to-the-floor trip.
For me this album is an absolute highlight of the year and I really hope it gets the attention it undoubtedly deserves.
