This machine is all you need to have the perfect espresso using the fantastic coffee which comes with it and featuring innovate features like CoffeeSense that make even the kitchen machine deliver cafe-quality drinks, and a touchscreen controlled smart coffee machine that can be handled using a touch screen.
Rather than requiring you to invest in next-level siphon pots and pressure cookers, or years of honing your barista skills before getting real results, the machine is designed for easy use, taking precise grinding, extraction and velvety microfoam out of your hands to deliver specialty espresso every time with the bare minimum of effort.
Their core product, a precision-engineered coffee grinder created in collaboration with TIMEMORE, unlocks the full flavor potential of the coffee bean by giving you the same grinds every time, down to the last atom; their house blend pack more flavor in every cup of espresso.
Grind quality is one area where most 3-in-1 machines compromise, but Meraki avoids this mistake by allowing a stepless adjustment so you can dial the beans to the perfect setting, and a commercial-grade conical burr grinder allows for a consistent grind for thick and full espresso shots. The machine has three different areas: grinding, extraction and steaming, which means that the beans are best separated out from the heat and moisture of the steaming area, ensuring you get the most coffee flavor.
It comes with a magnetically attachable dosing cup that is built for stability; the Meraki cup is compatible with the included 58mm portafilter, so you can grind, dose and prepare a puck of coffee in one step. This machine also has an ion beam and a short-path spout that minimise beverage retention and coffee clumping, reducing waste, and its rotary pump with 9-bar pressure creates a perfect balanced flavor and crema.
Through the use of an extraction boiler, PID technology and dedicated group head heater technology, its accurate temperature control ensures a steady temperature from the pre-infusion to the overall extraction and beyond. PID tech gives a real-time reading of the water’s temperature, allowing for greater precision and enabling you to dial in the ideal extraction temperature.
To avoid dirty spray-ups, the smaller drip tray that guides wastewater into the larger tray is one feature of the Meraki drip tray system. The single-touch steam boiler and the 360-degree adjustable wand give one complete control. You can easily get velvety microfoam that allows latte art and airy foam that gives you cappuccino.
Auto Mode allows you to set the weight of your coffee grounds, the weight of your liquid, and the temperature of your milk, and when you press the start button, Meraki grinds, extracts and foams your coffee for you.
At the same time, the coffee bag that comes with CoffeeSense coffee incorporates an NFC chip with parameters preset to that bean. Scan it at the bottom of the bag on your machine, and it unlocks the settings – the espresso-making user would hit Auto Mode for the coffee that had been included with it. The settings could also be pulled down from the Meraki coffee library through Auto Mode.
And aside from being a marvel of conveniently usable functionality, the Meraki espresso machine – fine-tuned for the maker – allows for blade or at-demand burr grinding, a pre-customisable quick menu, preheat timing, a three-level steam valve, real time weight counter, hot water on tap, over-the-air firmware updates, cleaning guide and such.
The 2L water tank means you won’t need to run back and forth to the faucet for fill ups; the brewing and coffee-serving areas are heat-resistant and double-layer insulated so that they stay cool to the touch (as it turns out, this saves energy, too, because pipes that stay cooler keep things cooler without the aid of the AC, which is passed on as savings in your bill). It’s heavy enough to be properly stable at 15 lbs, but light enough to move on its handy caster wheels. The hopper can hold more than two lbs of coffee beans, meaning you won’t have to grind fresh every time, which should allow you to make a larger batch of totally smooth caffeinated goodness.
Raised via Kickstarter, the crowd-funding campaign was launched two days ago and has already exceeded its $9,000 goal, raising more than $920,000 with 820 pledges and counting, as of this writing, with 43 days left. The first three are into early-bird prices, priced at $1,199 for the Meraki espresso machine.
