Much as the success in your relationship with your dog is remembering that you reign as the alpha leader in your household. You make the plans, and your dog follows gleefully. If you don’t affix human emotions and thought processes to your dog, you’ll both be a lot happier with the relationships. Dogs thrive on consistency and seek routines.

Your dog’s life is completely intertwined with yours, and his schedule is entirely dependent on yours. If you wok a nine-to-five job, it isn’t long before your dog beings to anticipate that you leave at a certain time in the morning and return at approximately the same time each evening. He picks up the cues. Dogs learn to plan their day around their people’s routines.

While your dog may not be able to read the time on your clock, his internal clock is quite able to discern the time that you’re anticipated home. So just prior to your typical arrival time, your dog is attuned to listen for those telltale signs – the sound of the garage door opening, keys in the lock, etc.

This is the most important part of your dog’s day, the time for greetings, for being acknowledged, and perhaps for being fed and given a toilet break.
