I'd never heard of or read the author before so I had no idea what to expect. I thought this story was okay and it gave chills (generic engineering, parents able to choose the traits and attributes they want in a child) but I felt it was nothing special. I found it hard to like Sam. I was also let down by the ending which seemed rushed and didn't fit well with the rest of the story. Sorry, this one really didn't work for me. I'm not having a good time with the Forward collection so far. I've enjoyed one story.
