In a candid interview on Arise TV, a political analyst and the Executive Director of Development Specs Academy, Professor Okey Ikechukwu discussed the power struggle between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.
He explained that Wike, who allegedly played a role in Fubara’s rise to power, expected loyalty from Fubara but also sought to maintain control over the government by issuing directives.
He suggested that Wike’s approach was unwise, considering Fubara’s previous position as the state’s accountant-general.
He argued that Fubara possessed knowledge of the government’s financial affairs, including potentially controversial aspects. He also questioned the source of Wike’s wealth, referencing his public admission of funding the campaigns of various candidates.

He said, “Here is a sitting governor (Fubara), ostensibly put in place by the man before him(Wike), and who demanded and expected loyalty but whom it appeared wanted to also be running the government on his (Fubara) behalf, and issue instructions. Now, that led to disagreement. And I thought the disagreement was not a smart thing on the part of the former governor (Wike). You are taking on the man who was in charge of your finances, who knew where the bones were buried.
