Soviet Cold War aircraft design on display at the wonderful Speyer Technik Museum. Introduced in 1960, the Yakovlev Yak-27 (NATO name “Flashlight-C”) was a family of Soviet supersonic aircraft developed in 1958. The most built variant was the high-altitude photo-reconnaissance variant Yak-27R (NATO reporting name “Mangrove”). 180 of these were produced, the radome and radar of the interceptor variant were replaced with a glazed nose for an observer/navigator, along with two cameras that were added.
