The new domain extension .XYZ has crossed the 1 Million domain name registration mark again.
However now all of the “free” Network Solutions (NetSol) domain names that were stuffed into customers accounts on a non-automatic renewal basis have run their course.
So all remaining Netsol registrations for an .XYZ domain exist because the owner paid to register or renew the domain
According to Zone file records .XYZ crossed back over 1,000,000 domain registration mark for the first time today, since before all the “free” Network Solutions domains expired.
According to the latest zone files there are 1,005,850 .XYZ domain names registered, still leading all new gTLD’s registries, and at this point, none of the domain are free.
The number of .XYZ domain names that are registered by Network Solutions are now under 20,000 or account for just 23% of all .XYZ registrations after hitting a high of 85% of all .XYZ registrations back in July of 2014.
We at TheDomains.com were the first to figure out that the .XYZ registry had a deal with Network Solutions to give free domain names away to existing NetworkSolutions.com customers back in June of 2014 the day after .XYZ launched.
However if you look at the domain name registrars for .XYZ today you can see that NetworkSolutions.com is now down to the 10th largest registrar for .XYZ domain names.
The Japan based GMO is now the biggest registrar of .xyz domain names, while NameCheap.com is number 2 in the world with the next 3 spots going to domain name registrars based in China:
