Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
As well as The second Mandalorian season is in full swingand as Xbox Game Pass Ultimate offers a free month of Disney Plus, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order comes into service. It's a rare type of game: a licensed title that doesn't suck. This action-adventure retains the Star Wars feel and charm and is well worth playing even if you are not obsessed with the Far Far Away galaxy.
Eternal fate
Doom Eternal is one of the newer games from Xbox Game Pass and will be released in October. It's a sequel to Doom 2016, a reboot of the classic shooter franchise. It's about killing many, many (and many) demons. The game was well received when it launched in March, earning an 8/10 from our sister site GameSpot.
Gears 5 Ultimate
Gears 5 Ultimate is one of the crown jewels of Xbox Game Pass. The 2019 Blockbuster is one of the biggest first-party games on Xbox One, and the fact that there are games like its own on Game Pass shows how seriously Microsoft is investing in the service. It's available on both Xbox One and PC.
Age of Empires II Definitive Edition
Age of Empires II is the comfort food of gaming. The Definitive Edition of this legendary PC game was released on PC last November. The game has been upscaled to 4K and new campaigns have been added. You can play on both PC and Xbox One through Game Pass.
Rainbow Six Siege Deluxe Edition
If you're looking for a Sagittarius, this is a good place to start. Rainbow Six Siege was released in 2015, but don't let that put you off. It was conceived as an esports game and has been updated and developed over the years. As a squad-based shooter, it still has a vibrant online community to this day.
Ori and the will of the wisps
Ori and the Will of the Wisps is a beautiful game from Moon Studios that is a sequel to Ori and the Blind Forest released in 2015. It's a hearty platform and adventure game, and a mix of Metroid, Castlevania and Rayman. It received a lot of praise when it was released in 2017. CNET's sister site, GameSpot, called it "a remarkable synthesis of artful design and beautiful moments".
Forza Horizon 4
For non-first person shooters, Forza is arguably Microsoft's largest and best exclusive franchise. Forza Horizon 4 is set in a UK-based world and received huge acclaim when it was released in 2018. Forza Motorsport 7, where you drive on a track rather than the open road, is coming soon. This title will be released in Game Pass on October 8th.
Dead cells
When you're fed up with the big budget first person shooters, give Dead Cells a try. It's a beautiful, colorful, Metroidvania-style action platformer that was released to great acclaim in 2018. It continues to be a cult favorite and well worth a download if you haven't played it yet (and even if you have). It can be played on both Xbox and PC via Game Pass Ultimate.
The outer worlds
Speaking of imaginative games, The Outer Worlds is an RPG by Obsidian, the gang behind Fallout New Vegas, and it's a winner. It takes place in an alternate universe where Theodore Roosevelt didn't regulate large US corporations at the beginning of the 20th century, which resulted in them ... apparently colonizing the galaxy. So essentially it's fallout in space. Game Pass Ultimate users can play it on both PC and Xbox.
Untitled geese game
One of the best things about Game Pass is that as a member, you can try out games that fascinate you but that you may have bought too quickly. For a lot of people, Untitled Goose Game will be one of those games. Released in 2019, it's a game where you play as a goose and wreak havoc as much as possible. An odd, seemingly unfounded premise, but one that resulted in a critically acclaimed game - and absolutely one worth trying out.
Fate 2
Destiny 2 is a hugely popular loot shooter developed by Bungie, the gang who brought you the original Halo. It's not new after it hit Xbox One in 2017, however. Now is the perfect time to get into Destiny 2 - or get back in - with a franchise-changing (according to Bungie) expansion, Beyond Light, kicking off November.
Oxfree
Oxenfree is a supernatural thriller that originally released for PC, Mac and Xbox One in 2016 and has since been ported to iOS and Android, among others. It will take you less than five hours to hit, but it's a memorable story well worth witnessing.
Halo: The Master Chief Collection
Master Chief Collection is a reworked pack that includes Halo 1, 2 and 3, ODST, Rach and Halo 4. Yes, that's a lot of Halo. The game was criticized at release for poor online multiplayer and technical issues, but patches have since addressed those issues. This is a great way to prepare for Halo: Infinite next year.
Wasteland 3
Wasteland 3 is an isometric RPG. However, this description does not do it justice in any way, as this post-apocalyptic game is filled with an admirable mixture of tension, individuality and charm. Set in 22nd century Colorado, it includes both psychological clowns and a cult dedicated to Ronald Reagan. What more do you need
What remains of Edith Finch
This is the perfect game for a service like Game Pass. What's left of Edith Finch is a two-hour track that you'll finish in one go. It's hard to describe the gameplay in a way that does it justice. All I'm saying is that it's an immersive exploration of the Finch family's history. Play it.
Kingdom Hearts 1.5 + 2.5
This is a good version for people who have never owned a PlayStation 2 before. Kingdom Hearts 1.5 + 2.5 features almost every game in the franchise: Kingdom Hearts, Chain of Memories, Kingdom Hearts 2, Birth By Sleep, and watchable versions of the DS game encoded 358/2 days (don't ask) and mobile game. If you try the series and get into it, Kingdom Hearts III is on Game Pass too.
