Writing Challenge 26

By Brian Abbott

This month’s challenge is related to this Friday’s cocktail (1/31/14).

To spark your creativity, The Poisoned Martini features monthly images to get you started.  Such images, because of their visual nature, vividly speak to writers and spark ideas for writing.  The idea is to view the image below and to write a scene, a short story, a chapter, a novella, or maybe even a novel.

The second of last month’s two writing challenges featured a very colorful scene, but what was it exactly?  Chalk it up to a very bad, but chance snap of the camera.  While trying to take an evening picture indoors, this blurred shot resulted.  The colors blurred, mimicking brushstrokes and streaks of light.  Normally such a digital image would be deleted, but there was something artistic about this one, clamoring to be kept.  View the image here.

For this month’s challenge, The Poisoned Martini presents something monumental.  A famous landmark in a well-known city houses the tomb of a famous military mind.  A glided dome rises above a chapel, and cannons (not visible) guard the entrance to the courtyard of this Musée.
