Floral wreath laying ceremonies were held at the Revolutionary Martyrs Cemetery, the Patriotic Martyrs Cemetery and the Fatherland Liberation (Korean) War Martyrs Cemetery in Pyongyang on 19 September (Thursday) on the occasion of Harvest Moon Day (a.k.a Ch’uso’g; Chueseok). Visiting the cemeteries were Pak Pong Ju (DPRK Premier), VMar Choe Ryong Hae (Director of the Korean People’s Army [KPA] General Political Department) along with “other senior party, state and army officials, vice-premiers of the Cabinet, the chairperson of a friendly party, officials of party, armed forces and power bodies, working people’s bodies, ministries and national institutions and men and officers of the Korean People’s Army and the Korean People’s Internal Security Forces and citizens.” Wreaths from Kim Jong Un (Kim Cho’ng-un), the Korean Workers’ Party Central Committee, the Supreme People’s Assembly Presidium, the DPRK Government were placed in front of the Revolutionary and Patriotic Martyrs Cemeteries. A wreath sent jointly by the Party Central Committee, Party Central Military Commission and the National Defense Commission were placed at the “soul of heroes” floral stand at the FLW Martyrs Cemetery. Wreaths from “armed forces organs, social bodies, ministries, national institutions, units of the Korean People’s Army and education, public health and media institutions as well as party and power bodies and industrial establishments and farms” were also delivered to the cemeteries. Similar ceremonies reportedly occurred in other DPRK cities where floral wreaths from “provincial party and power organs and working people’s bodies, industrial establishments, farms and schools” were delivered. According to KCNA, “participants observed a moment’s silence in memory of those martyrs who remained intensely loyal to the leadership of President Kim Il Sung (Kim Il-so’ng) and leader Kim Jong Il (Kim Cho’ng-il) and glorified their noble life in the struggle to liberate the country, achieve its prosperity and accomplish the revolutionary cause of Chuch’e.” After the ceremonies, family members visited individual graves to place floral arrangements.
