Woven Together

The story of a cycle jersey

Almost two months ago, I signed up to cycle in the Nightrider 100km challenge in aid of the wonderful Princess Alice Hospice. Training hard is under way, with my first 60km ride achieved yesterday. You can find the tale of how things of gone by clicking here.

When I ride through London’s streets at midnight on June 8th, I shall be wearing a shirt designed in Sussex, printed in Wales, conceived on the Isle of Mann and funded in  Teddington. As with many a complex story, it takes a while to untangle the threads and see how I got here from…there.

In October 2011, I met a Diocesan Communications Officer from the Isle of Mann at a conference in London and we stayed in touch. When my cartoonist friend in Sussex designed my logo for the charity event, it was that same Diocesan Communications Officer who suggested that his friend in Anglesey might print it onto a jersey for me. This he duly did, and offered to print on any other logos which businesses might sponsor. My plea to the local businesses of Teddington to add their logo for  a donation of £25 to the sponsorship has already yielded a wonderful response:

  1. Vidatherapy Spa
  2. Simply Skin UK
  3. Moore’s Cycles
  4. TLC family
  5. Best of Richmond
  6. Hamilton 360
  7. Waldegrave clinic
  8. Princess Alice Hospice

As you can see, there are still TWO places remaining. I would love to see them filled. This not only raises money for a charity which enhances hundreds of lives every year, but also allows me to carry with me some token of the town of Teddington and its wonderful community as I ride.
