In November 2017, Blizzard Entertainment announced at BlizzCon the next expansion for World of Warcraft which was Battle for Azeroth.

World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth Official Release DateThe upcoming expansion will be the seventh in the game’s history and we will be immersed in the continuing battle between the Horde and Alliance.  With alpha game invites going out, most gamers believed that Battle for Azeroth would be released sometime this fall.  Alpha invites are basically invited that go out to random players to be able to experience the next expansion early while bugs are still being worked out.

Since the end of January 2018, Battle for Azeroth has been up for pre-order for the digital standard and deluxe versions of the game, which has also unlocked some goodies ahead of the expansion’s release.  Both versions give you access to the new expansion upon release, a character boost to 110 (which you can use now), and if you’ve unlocked the prerequisites for the new allied races then you can use your boost on a Void Elf (Alliance), Lightforged Draenei (Alliance), Highmountain Tauren (Horde), or Nightborne (Horde).  The deluxe version will also give you Zandalar Gilded Ravasaur (Horde) and Kul Tiras Seabraid Stallion (Alliance) mounts, Tottle – the baby Tortollan pet, and a handful of other prizes you can use in other Blizzard Entertainment games.

The official release date for Battle for Azeroth has been announced for August 14, 2018.  So, now is the time to do any catch-up, leveling of alts, and completing achievements that will be gone in the next expansion.

World of Warcraft was first announced by Blizzard Entertainment in 2001, but was not released until 2004.  Since then, the game has experienced the following expansions thus far: The Burning Crusade (2007), Wrath of the Lich King (2008), Cataclysm (2010), Mists of Pandaria (2012), Warlords of Draenor (2014), and Legion (2016).
