Most children enjoy sitting on the floor to do various activities and games. But floors can be cold sometimes and not so comfortable. Flooring also costs lots of money and requires hard work from mummies and daddies to keep it clean. My house is majority carpets which did not come cheap. In my large kitchen/dining room I have Lino type floor which I soon want replaced with some sort of wooden flooring. It is always nice for children to have their own things to sit on and play on and this is where our very colourful new playmat comes in.
The playmats come from a company called Soft floor kids. They sell various designs and the World map seems to be a very popular choice both for parents and nurseries, toddler groups etc. It's easy to see why once it's all put together.
It arrives in a storage bag with carry handle and consists of 12 big chunky foam jigsaw pieces. It is just like a jigsaw but much bigger. The pieces slot together very easily and once put together we are left with a big map of the world.
The map itself is very educational and fun. It shows all the continents and countries. Many of the tiny islands are also shown. Images of famous buildings and landmarks appear across the mat too such as the pyramids in Egypt. Native animals and traditions are shown in fabulous images and I especially like the Russian dolls and of course the big whale happily shown swimming around Easter Island (I wish I could go there!). The images are really good for younger children such as Izebella who being just 2 does not know much about countries of the world just yet. For older children the map shows where all the countries are along with a flag section at the bottom and time zone clocks at the top and bottom.
The floor mat takes very little time to put together and once fully assembled it measures 125cm x 95cm x 12mm which is plenty of room for all my children to sit and play on. Each tile measures 30cm x 30cm x 12mm and is made from Medium-density EVA foam. The surface is not slippy and it wipes clean easily whether they choose to play or eat on it.It is very colourful, bright and eye catching. Can be placed and played on anywhere and in any room and even outside too so I think it will come in useful next Summer for outside play. When it's not needed it can be taken apart in seconds and stored away in the carry bag.I was really surprised to find that this big world map may costs just less than £20. I was expecting a much higher price. Many paper wall maps sell for a much higher price and this mat map has multiple used as well as the educational and learning values. It is well worth investing in one and especially so for any sort of hard flooring areas where children play and even outside areas too. Also perfect for holidays, hotels abroad tend to have very hard floors and of course camping in tents, it could double up as a camping mat. It's suitable for kids of all ages even young babies. The link to buy from is Soft Floor Kids and this map mat costs just £19.95.
